This
weed screen constitutes a major component of our chain-type fixed weed
screen cleaning systems installed at open-source water intakes of some
irrigation pumping stations in Egypt. It provides primary screening
of weeds and debris available in open water sources prior to supply
to pumping stations. To facilitate transfer, installation and maintenance,
the weed screen is made of panels. Each panel consists of 7 to 10 strips
welded together leaving a 50 mm inter-distance. With a width of 100
mm, the strip thickness varies from 12 mm to 20 mm. The strip length
exceeds the water intake depth by a value ranging from 50 cm to 100
cm to allow for fixation of its upper end in the chassis lower transverse
beam. The strip lower end is fixed in a pocket placed at the intake
bottom. Panels are mounted one after another at an angle of 75°
to the horizontal. Transverse beams are distributed behind panels to
prevent dislocation or change of inclination due to water pressure.
Continuous or repetitive operation of pumping stations results in accumulation
of weeds and debris on rack bars. Trash raking then takes place as rakes
move along the screen from bottom to top.
